Modulator-I (Mod I) sub-assembly operates in a frequency range of 2-6 GHz.It provides two RF paths for the input signal between input and output ports.A pair of SPDT switches controlled externally selects the paths.One of the RF paths has a double balanced mixer wherein the incoming RF signal is amplitude modulated with a noise signal.The other path has a pad of 20 dB nominal value to compensate for the mixer loss and AM loss so that at the output of the sub- assembly same level of signal is seen from either of the paths.Pin attenuator of 45 dB is included in the circuit to control the output level as dictated externally.
