"Demineralized Water" (DI Water), also known as deionized water, is water that has had almost all of its mineral ions removed, typically through processes such as deionization or demineralization. DI Water is essentially pure water, as it lacks ions such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and other minerals. This high-purity water is used in various industries for applications where the presence of minerals could cause issues, such as in laboratories, electronics manufacturing, and certain industrial processes.

1. **Pre-Treatment**: In some cases, water may undergo pre-treatment to remove large particles, suspended solids, and other impurities. This may involve processes such as sedimentation, filtration, or clarification.

2. **Reverse Osmosis (RO)**: Reverse osmosis is a common method used in DI Water plants. It involves passing water through a semi-permeable membrane that allows only water molecules to pass while rejecting ions, minerals, and other impurities. RO is effective in removing a significant portion of dissolved salts and minerals.

3. **Ion Exchange (Deionization)**: After RO, the water may be further treated through ion exchange resins. These resins selectively remove remaining ions, resulting in highly demineralized water. The ion exchange process involves separate beds of cation exchange resin and anion exchange resin.

4. **Mixed Bed Deionization (MBDI)**: In some DI Water plants, mixed bed deionization is used as a final polishing step. In a mixed bed, cation and anion exchange resins are mixed together in a single vessel. This allows for thorough removal of any remaining ions, resulting in extremely high-purity water.
