These pumps are of the end section type, with discharge readially upwards. The following are the salient features of the pump. The Pump Casing : It is designed to withstand large variations in temperature and pressure involved. The suction inlet of the casing can be readially dismantled and therefore the joint between the casing and the suction head is simple and reliable. This also facilitates the easy dismantling of the impeller without, or upsetting the coupling and the motor. The casing also has a replaceable wear ring conferring great stability. The Bearing : The shaft is supported by two grease lubricated ball bearings. The shaft being effectively cooled, no special cooling of the bearing of the bearings is required. Over greasing of the bearings is prevented by internal grease discs. The Stuffing Box : In order to achieve effective cooling, the stuffing box is equipped with a cooling chamber and a water cooled gland, and the cooling water is forced to circulate in the cooling chamber. The pump is of single suction type and thus has only one stuffing box as shaft seal with water seal ring provided between the graphited asbestos packing ropes. Common Base Plate : It is so designed that the punpis supported on the base plate along its horizontal centre- line to prevent the shaft from bending due to any thermal expansion. Pump Drive : It is designed for direct coupling to the electric motor,which are both mounted on a common base plate. The Materials : Parts coming in contact with the liquid is chosen in accordance with the pressure, temperature and the corrosive nature (whether acidic, neutral, or alkaline). For example, Staniless steel is used for acidic liquids, and steel casting for alkaline liquids. However, the impeller, impeller nut, shaft sleeve and wear rings, are generally of stainless steel. Application : Liquar Circulation in stationary vertical bactch digesters, and for transportaion of different types of liquor in Cellulose and paper industries.
