Broken Rice

The leading rice producing states of India are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, and Haryana.

Broken rice like all other varieties of rice can be packaged in different materials, including HDPE bags, nonwoven bags, LDPE packets and bags, jute bags, loose packaging. It is available in various volume packaging sizes such as 5 kg, 10 kg, 25 kg, 50 kg etc.

White rice variety is mostly consumed in India. Mainly grown in West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, white rice is considered as the most eatable variety of rice.

Broken rice are nothing but fragments of whole rice grains. These may have broken in the field, or during drying, or during transport, or during milling. 

Ideally sushi rice has a different texture than white rice. It is stickier and its grain is short in size when compared to white rice which has a medium to long grain size. Sushi rice also contains more starch than white rice. Having said that because broken rice have shorter grains when cooked with the right amount of water it can mimic the texture of sushi rice. However the taste will be different from sushi rice which has a distinctive flavor.

Apart from consuming broken rice in our daily meals, brewers make beer using them. It is also used in feeding livestock and aquaculture. Additionally, broken rice is used for the processing of starch used in the laundry or in clothes, cosmetics, and textiles.

Yes, broken rice is extremely beneficial for humans and fits perfectly into healthy eating diet plan. Just like the whole grain rice of the same variety, broken rice have low calories and glycemix index (GI) which make it an ideal choice for maintaining good health and body weight.

Mechanical separators are used to separate the broken grains from the whole grains and then are sorted by size.
