Bitter Gourd Plant

It can be grown range of soil rich in organic matter and well drained. Water stagnation is harmful. The seedling can be grown directly, no need of transplanting. The spacing should be 50-60 cms between plants as well as rows.

It being a creeper can be grown along the ground or the vines can be trained on artificially erected pandals. The fruits grow longer and better when hanging instead of coming in contact with the soil.

It can be grown in pot too. You can grown it in a 9i? pot. Along the boundary of the pot you can be make a half round erect structure with wooden stick on which the vines can grow. Sow the seeds directly into the pot and keep in shade till germination. Gradually expose to sun over a period of one week and then always in sunlight.

The fruits are harvested after approx. 70-75 days of sowing. It should be harvested when immature and tender. It requires regular harvesting so that the successive fruits from properly and their growth and development is not affected.

The fruit should be detached gently as the vines are thin.
