A water purifier
or water filter is designed for cleaning water in water treatment plants to

the growth of population worldwide, scarcity of potable and drinkable water
came into the picture as rainwater or groundwater is not enough to cope with
the water demand. This brings usage of machines to purify water from the ocean
and river that can be made potable. Previously water was purified with minerals
like chlorine, charcoal, alum, etc. With time, various water purifiers came
into the picture, purifying water from various microorganisms and removing
other harmful substances.

can treat water through various scientific techniques like osmosis, reverse
osmosis, distillation, and UV treatment. Reverse osmosis is widely used these
days to purify water for industrial and household use. The reverse osmosis
process is based on reversing the application of osmosis. This consists of
applying high pressure to water stored in a conduit consisting of a thick membrane.
These thick members have minor openings which only allow water to percolate
through them. It is a dense layer that filters out all minerals and other
microorganisms. Reverse osmosis is used to give the purest form of water.
UV Treatment is
when water is subjected to ultraviolet rays/lights, which kills all the
organisms and other harmful/non-harmful substances present in water. Water
purity can be measured based on a technique that calculates total dissolved
solids in water. Hence, TDS is the term that can be used as a unit of water
purity. TDS also includes minerals like manganese, calcium, sodium, iron, etc.
present in water.

A lot many
industries use distilled water for various purposes which include the cosmetics
industry, automobile, laboratory experiments, canning production, and brewing
beer. Industries and factories used distilled water to ensure every process
free from microorganisms and get 100% accurate results. Biomedical labs,
