What is Loban used for?
Prayers and poojas in the Hindu religion frequently make use of Refresh Loban agarbattis. They are natural incense sticks that are non-toxic and do not cause any harm in any form. In addition to their employment in religious practices, they are also employed during meditation due to their capacity to improve one's ability to concentrate and focus the mind. Benzoin is also known as gum benzoin or gum benjamin, and in India it is known as Sambrani or loban. However, loban is actually a general name that comes from the Arabic word lubn and refers to frankincense-type incense, such as aromatic tree resin. Benzoin is sometimes known as storax, although this should not be confused with the balsam of the same name that is produced from the family Hamamelidaceae.
What is Loban made of?
The balsamic, aromatic resin known as Loban or Gum Benzoin is harvested from the trees of the genus Styrax. Loban crystals are burned in temples and mosques across the Indian subcontinent to create a sacred and uplifting ambiance. Originally from the tropical regions of Java, Sumatra, and Thailand is the Gum Benzoin tree (Styrax benzoin). The resin, also known as gum benjamin, is extracted from the tree by cutting triangular incisions in the bark to produce a flow; the resin then solidifies into lumps upon exposure to air and sunshine, giving off a vanilla-like scent. Since it prevents volatile aromatic compounds like essential oils from dispersing too quickly into the atmosphere, benzoin finds widespread application in the perfume business.

It is intended to be used by sprinkling a resin blend upon glowing charcoal embers. This will produce smoke that will disperse the resin's pleasant aroma.
