Purpose in a Nutshell
A Horizontal Laminar air flow is an airtight bench-top cabinet used to contain and protect biological samples, pharmaceutical elements and other sensitive items from airborne micro-contaminates. The air flows in a uniform direction i.e., horizontal (in this case) and in a constant speed, providing the cleanest cabinet for science. 

Highly Efficient Filter 
It incorporates 99.99% efficient HEPA filter to remove very small airborne particulates of size 0.3Aum; or it may use 99.999% ULPA to remove contaminants of size 0.12Aum and bigger.

Working Principle of Horizontal Laminar Air Flow
A fan module and filter work together simultaneously. The fan module within the cabinet pushes the air through HEPA filter to flow in the horizontal direction with a constant speed onto the work surface towards the sample. The air is pulled from the back of the cabinet that when crossed through the sample takes away the contaminants with it.

Sterilization of Horizontal Laminar Air Flow 
One or more germicidal lamps are used to sterilize the interior of the horizontal LAF cabinet before and after the applications. 

Material of Construction
The LAF cabinet is usually made from stainless steel as the material is highly resistant to corrosion, high temperature and pressure, chemicals and other impacts.
