Is a combination lock secure for a house?

Combination locks are handier than key locks, but they don't provide the same amount of security. Importantly, padlocks with a combination are not as safe as those with a key. Keep in mind that there are no combination padlocks that have passed any sort of security evaluation. The primary flaw of combination locks is its susceptibility to being broken by the user's own trial and error. If a lock has three dials and each dial can only be turned from zero to nine, then the possible combinations are limited to 720. The more knobs it has, the more trial and error will be required to figure it out.

How does a combination lock function?

A combination lock is similar to a lever lock in that it operates by a series of numbers rather than by a physical lever. Tumblers with slots in them allow a fence to retract; unlocking the bolt once the tumblers are in the correct position. Every single one of these wheels is covered in wheel flies. The first wheel is rotated by the drive pin until it makes contact with the wheel next to it. This process is repeated until all the cogs are turning. Picking up the wheels is what a user does at this point. One notch is cut into each wheel on the spindle. When the dial is set to the correct position, the notches in each wheel align with one another.
