Calcium Carbonate Tablet

When amount of calcium does not suffice from diet, calcium carbonate, a dietary supplement, is prescribed for health benefits. To maintain healthy bones, muscles, nervous system, and heart, calcium carbonate is required. It is also indicated to provide relief heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, or upset stomach associated with these symptoms when used as an antacid.

Calcium carbonate can be taken orally and comes in different forms such as a tablet, chewable tablet, capsule, and liquid. This medicine should be taken 3-4 times a day or as instructed by the pharmacist and prescribed by the doctor. It should be consumed after meals when taking this medicine as a dietary supplement. The chewable tablets should be crushed and chewed thoroughly and not swallowed as a whole. You should drink a glass of water after that. Calcium carbonate available in liquid form should be shaken well before use. It is advised not to take calcium carbonate as an antacid for more than 2 weeks unless advised by the doctor.

If you are allergic to calcium carbonate, please inform the doctor before using it. This medicine should not be taken at the same time with any other drugs such as digoxin, etidronate, phenytoin, tetracycline, and any kind of vitamins. Since calcium may reduce the efficacy of other medicines, wait for few hours to consume any of the other medicine.

People having kidney disease and stomach infection must inform the tell doctor before using calcium carbonate. Pregnant ladies and lactating mothers should thoroughly consult their physician before its use.

Calcium carbonate must be stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It should be stored in an air-tight container and should be kept out of reach of children. 

Usually, there are no side effects of calcium carbonate medication, and the product is completely safe to use. However, it is advised to consult your physician before consuming this product. In rare cases, calcium carbonate may cause some common of the common side effects such as stomach upset, vomiting, stomach pain, belching, constipation, dry mouth, increased urination, loss of appetite, and metallic taste.
