Basic Dyes 

Basic dyes are the type of dye that are soluble in water, as well as, in alcohol or mentholated spirit. These are used in a great extent for dyeing of paper, acrylic fibers and modacrylic fibers, and sometimes used for dyeing wool and silk. These are used for dyeing acrilan, zefran, creslan, sayelle, orlon, rayon, polyester, and nylon, as well as, also used for jute printing and dyeing. They are ideal for dyeing plastics, dyeing paints, stains & coatings, dyeing hair, dyeing paper products, and dyeing industrial products.

Usually acetic acid is added to the mixture in the dye bath to facilitate the dye affinity to the fabrics. The whole process is carried in acidic condition. Just because of their positive charge, they react with negatively-charged compound. These are widely used with caution and safety, and can be problematic when used in homes.

Moreover, basic dyes are also used for making typewriter ribbons, inks and dyeing leather. They are cationic in nature and have good wet fastness but poor fastness to light. Still they are the prime choice for having brilliant shade. They are comparatively very inexpensive than other types of dyes such as direct dyes, reactive dyes and many more.
