Distinguishing Features The kiln is a cylindrical vessel, inclined slightly to the horizontal and supported on two or more tyres. The material to be processed is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates, material gradually moves down towards the lower end. Hot gases pass along the kiln which may be generated in an external furnace, or may be generated by a flame inside the kiln. The fuel for this may be gas, oil etc.Rotary Kilns are normally direct fired and lined with refractory material to protect the steel shell, reduce radiation losses and transfer heat to the material.Rotary kiln is the equipment which is widely used for processing solid materials in the building, minerals, chemicals and allied industries.
