The hardness of silicon carbide is about 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale that is compared to 10 for diamond. The former is more resistant to heat & lighter than diamond.
Silicon carbide is used for its hardness in abrasive machining process, for brake disks; as semiconductor material for high-voltage devices; in electric systems, steel production, LED making, heat treatment of metals, production of ceramics; to make diamond-resembling jewellery etc.
