Formal Shoes, also known as dress shoes are generally worn at smart casual and formal events. In contrast to athletic shoes, formal shoes are largely worn in formal wedding parties and in other special occasions. Generally made from leather, formal shoes are available in widely varying price range; from simple and inexpensive to made from highest grade leather and very expensive. These are mostly found in black and brown color, however, other possible colors may include Burgundy, Chestnut, Cordovan, Oxblood and White.
Types of Formal Shoes:
The oxford shoe – The oxford shoe is the most classic of all traditional shoes. Apart from being used formally, these are sometimes also used casually. The shoe is distinguished by it's closed lacing
The one piece oxford shoe – This is a variation of the classic oxford shoe as in it is constructed from a single piece of leather rather than various pieces sewn together
The derby shoe – Distinguished by it's open lacing
The monk strap – These do not come with laces but with a strap that is fastened across the front of the shoe
The loafer – The distinguishing feature of the loafer is it's simple slip on use. The loafer features a saddle consisting of a plain strap, a strap with a slit or tassels
The dress boot – Same as an oxford shoe but with a longer shaft
The chelsea boot – Typically, the Chelsea boot has an elastic sliding that allows these to be put off and taken with ease. Chelsea boots are of ankle length with rounded toes and low heels.
How to Pick Ideal Formal Shoes:
Although formal shoes are of various types, broadly these can be classified according to their width as : slim and regular. Formal shoes should always be worn according to the fit of one's trousers. To elaborate, broader shoes might look clunky when coupled along with slim fit trousers. Likewise, slim shoes may seem out of place when worn with regular fit trousers. As for the color, black is the most favored by people trailed behind by brown. Although a lot of bright colors in formal shoes are also in vogue at the moment, still these are difficult to carry and require matching trousers, shirts or suits for suitability.
Maintenance of Formal Shoes:
Formal shoes should be regularly polished.
These should not be cleaned with water but only with a cleaning kit.
A special care should be given to ensure these are polished only with matching colors.
Although these are very durable, still formal shoes should not used for playing sporty and outdoor games. This may make the shoes worn out and may hurt the wearer's feet.
