What material is used to make cake boards?
- Corrugated cardboard: The vast majority of all temporary cake boards are constructed out of cardboard with a corrugated surface. This material is constructed using layers of fluted paper that are sandwiched between two layers of outer layers, with the surface layer contributing to the material's stiffness and the fluted paper contributing to the material's insulation and thickness.
- Laminated Chipboard: This is formed of pressed paperboard, making it lightweight while yet staying quite strong. Laminated chipboard is a kind of chipboard. It features a laminated finish, which makes it resistant to the penetration of oil into the material. This material is not robust enough to sustain larger desserts and can only handle smaller ones.
- Melamine-Coated wood: These cake boards are constructed out of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), which has been coated with melamine. It is robust and resistant to breaking, and the outside also functions as a sealer, so it is resistant to grease. The melamine covering on the board makes it simple to clean, and despite its durability, it always looks as if it has been professionally polished.
