The growing concern of climate change – rise in global temperature and emissions from the energy sector have brought great focus on initiatives for use of cleaner, greener energy sources and to move away from polluting fossil fuel-based energy sources. Several studies & scenarios on possible future energy transition trends suggest that by 2050 contribution of fossil fuel and renewable energy sources in primary energy mix would be about 50:50. Over 190 countries, NGO’s, and international organizations under the support of the United Nations have deliberated and suggested action plans under COP15 and COP26 for countries and companies to follow.

Refining is an age old industry and has been constantly evolving over time. The Vintage refineries were very small and also predominantly fuels only Refineries. Slowly the sector has grown and Global Scale Refineries of 20 MMTPA capacity with high complexity and Integrated to Petrochemical complexes have become the order of the day. 

Mega Integrated Refinery & Petrochemical Complexes have huge capex requirements, mind boggling numbers of equipment, huge quantities of steel and RCC, large requirement of Manpower Machinery and need for transportation of large ODC consignments. 

Such Complexities of State of the Art Technology, Design, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Construction, Commissioning and Project Management requires integration of all available resources and their interweaving into a single organism, which blooms into a Mega Hydrocarbon Complex. 

In such Projects each element assumes significance and the need of the hour is to engage with all stakeholders to understand how we can support each other, learn from each other and make such humungous complexes a reality.  Keeping the above Philosophy in focus, a Conference on "Refining & Petrochemicals 2022 and Beyond (IRPC 2022)" is being organized during 10th September 2022 in Delhi.
