Bib cocks are made up of three parts including a spindle seat and cock. The spindle is well embedded into the body pipe which aids in controlling the flow of liquids. In between the spindle and the seat there is an adjustable packing called cork which when installed stops liquid coming into the assembly. On shaking or fiddling with it the cork loosens up allowing water to run.
