These in-situ insulated joints are available in two types: Factory Made Type: In this type of insulated glued rail joints popularly called L-type, the rails are sent to the factory and the joints are fabricated in lengths of 6 to 6.5 meters each. These are then transported to the site and inserted into the track by welding on both sides. IN-SITU Type: Two types of In-Situ Insulated Joints are available. They can be fabricated on site of the existing fishplate joint. In this case no transportation of rails is required as the joint is made in-situ on the track, insulation resistance and pull out strength are comparable to the existing glued joints. A traffic block of about 2 - 3 hrs is needed. In the second case, no adhesive is needed in these joints. The fishplates are made of high strength insulating material. The joints can be made at site with minimum block of 1 hr. and rack can be opened to traffic immediately thereafter.
