With the experience of 156 years in vacuum technology, we offer a broad know how of processes and applications to the customers. We have 32 own locations and 46 agents and representatives, who offer customers the largest sales and after sales network of vacuum technology industry. Our product application find various utilities in day to day life such as air conditioning, TV tubes, automotive applications and others. We also cater to the needs of high technological processes like coating of microchips, CDs and DVDs, as well as in the manufacturing of optical glass or analytical instruments. Backed by highly experienced staff and sufficient industrial knowledge, we rank among the top three providers in specific business segments such as process industry, information technology, analytical processes and research and development.

Historical Milestones

2006	As part of the Switzerland-based OC Oerlikon Management AG, the company is the world-wide leading supplier of vacuum technology and system solutions
1994	Cologne remained the location of the vacuum-pump technology division, Hürth that of the science teaching materials division. Vacuum process engineering stayed in Hanau. All division became independent GmbHs (LTDs.)
1987	Effective 1 October 1987 Leybold Heraeus was renamed Leybold AktiengesellschaftAktiengesellschaft (English: Leybold Corporation), or Leybold AG for short, and company headquarters moved from Cologne to Hanau.
1980	The period of the 1980s was marked by turbulent growth. By 1987 the company had sales of over a billion marks thanks to the good work of its about 5,600 employees worldwide.
1967	Merger of E. Leybold´s Nachfolger and Heraeus Hochvakuum GmbH. Until this date, Dr. Manfred Dunkel had been the head of the company for 36 years and helped it to become a company of world-wide renown also by expanding the range of products.
1911	Development of the molecular air pump by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gaede.
1906	The renamed company began its extremely successful collaboration with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gaede.
1870	Ernst Leybold retired and sold the company to Emil Schmidt and Otto Ladendorff, who renamed it E. Leybold's Nachfolger.
1850	Ernst Leybold became self-employed.
