Optimistic, yes…Why not??
My perspective on the potentiality of India's developmental activities, emulating China's economic strategies, progressive endeavours related to the SEZs and FTAs were deemed as overtly promising by few readers of my editorials last year. So, I thought it best to validate my viewpoint with valid reasons.
Firstly, with the potential India has at its disposal, I believe I have to be optimistic that we will sooner than later be global number one. It is definitely not an easy task, but we have to give it a try. Issues like infrastructure development, red-tapism and rampant corruption will end only if we make a beginning somewhere. And we need to believe that a modest beginning today will be a grand success in the near future.
Secondly, I always reiterate the fact that we must follow, if not the footsteps of China, but at least the bold and best measures they have taken. Chinese economy is better than India, there is no doubt about that. So, I feel we too should see what they have done and learn from them. It is perhaps a great advantage for us to take up all the good points from the Chinese economy and improvise on the mistakes they have committed.
Thirdly, today, we need no boundaries while doing business. I think all from the exim community will agree with me that we need to do away with trade-distorting policies that still exist between nations. And with the WTO trade talks going nowhere, FTAs will be the order of the day. I strongly feel the world is moving towards free trade international boundaries. So, sooner we adapt and learn to live with FTAs, the better it will be for the country and its economy.
Last but not least, another area which I feel will help our nation to surge ahead towards economic superiority is SEZs. These zones can and certainly will bring about a revolution in the Indian economy. SEZs will also solve the biggest problem that we face of poor infrastructure. With all the industries and businesses located in a particular area, infrastructure development is bound to follow suit.
So, let's ponder on these points and work on them! |

Dear Bikky, |
I have always been a proponent of an AFTZ, just like the EU and the Americas (involving North and South America including Canada and the Caribbean. With India’s newly found economic powers, I think the nation should engineer the move and then Asia will have some clout at the World Economic Summits. |
