Dear Bikky,
Mr Putin's visit to India is indeed encouraging. However, there is a need to improve our human relation now. My personal experience in Russia was not too encouraging. This is important if business relations are to improve.

Dear Editor,
You have focused on an issue which has tremendous potential, direct bearing on the lives of subjects in two countries. Despite strong political ties, historical friendly relations and obvious liking of the people of both the countries towards each other, trade between two countries is abysmally small in size. Now with the improving economic health of Russia and increasing strength of our country, we can hopfully increase our trade in a very short span of time.

Our very own Union Industry and Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath’s statement in the recently concluded India Economic Summit that SAARC member nations should graduate from traditional FTAs to more comprehensive economic cooperation understanding, is being seen as the country’s harbinger of the trading policies that are to follow in the near future.

Even I do feel that it’s time the government machinery (of the SAARC countries) in general and the Exim inc. in particular look at areas where a quantum jump in trade could be possible.

Indeed we all will perhaps profit if we shift from the traditional ETAs and FTAs to more comprehensive models of economic co-operation.

If we are committed to creating a dynamic South Asian region by 2020, without doubt a common platform to achieve common goals, with new zeal must be formed as it is important that SA countries engage in economic and trade agreements.

Today, India has understood that the SAARC countries combined are a powerful force, which can fight their way to the top.

The interests of the SAARC countries go well together and coincide in every way and if we speak in one voice as a region, I think it would help us in positive growth in the international scenario.

Whatever be the obstacles on the way, India has today understood that it is indeed in an enviable position on the international trading front. And with its immense potential and backing from an enthusiastic Exim community it can work wonders. Wait till 2020!
