Suggestions wanted

The Commerce Ministry’s invitation for suggestions to remodel the Target Plus Scheme, came as good news for the exim community.

The scheme aimed at rewarding star export houses that achieve a quantum growth will go to further boost exports.

However before the scheme is implemented, the government needs to tighten certain loopholes and should rework the whole scheme within the same budget.

I belief that inputs and suggestions from the export fraternity on how to go about this exercise will indeed help, because the exporter-importer will be in a better position to project the ground realities.

If all goes well, the scheme will be a kick-start for industries and target employment and genuine growth.

The scheme's objective to accelerate growth in exports by rewarding star export houses that have achieved a quantum growth in exports will indeed provide the right impetus to the fledging sector.

Moreover I am of the opinion that exporters now have to think big. They should expand their wings beyond traditional markets and look at new areas and markets. It’s time too for an aggressive agro-export culture.

The authorities will also have to pledge to leave exports alone and reduce the encumbrances on exports. The need of the day is to get out of this intervention regime and let Exim Inc. do business and achieve their goals.

Hi Mr. Bikky,
While SAFTA is a welcome move, the experience of clearance of material under the agreement between India and Sri Lanka has not been comfortable at both the ends. Local custom authorities as well as standard institutions create several barriers (non-tariff) resulting in delay of clearance and litigations which discourage trade. The governments must look into the matter.
