TECHNICAL ASPECTS

For the manufacture of Aluminium Sulphate from bauxite(55%Al2O3)

Aluminium Sulphate and its various hydrates are important requisites of commerce in the paper industry and water treatment as well as in textile industry. It has replaced Alum which was formerly used for the same purpose. Commerical Aluminium Sulphate
appears as Al2 (SO4)3 13H2 O instead of theoretical Al2 (SO4)3 13H2 O

Use of Pattern: It is used mostly as flocculating Acid for the purification of water. It is used in pharmacy in dilute solution as mild stringent and anticeptic for the skin. It is also used and in sizing of paper. In that case it should be free from iron and used as mordant in dying industry for purification of water. It takes up about 65% Aluminum Sulphate and it has got huge scope to set up new big industry.

Process of Manufacture: Main raw materials for its production is Bauxite or Kaolinite and Sulphuric Acid mineral is ground and fed into lead lined M/S regulator and it is allowed to react with Sulphuric Acid. While starring content with padal type agitator and live steam accompanied by hot air. Reaction takes about 15-20 hours to complete. The mixture is then sent to settling time where glue and black ash Vas are added for coagulation for impurities and reduction of Ferric to Ferrous also to Ferrous Sulphite.

Liquid is concentrate by evaporation in open pans filled with steam coils. Liquid is collected and solidified and crystallized . Solidified product is ground and packed in bags. Aluminium Sulphate is added to dilute. Aluminium Sulphate solution in correct amount.

Clear Liqueur is used as such or concentrated to 61.5 Deg. BE and then allowed to solidify to block lump or powder
