Total hardness is a measurement of the mineral content in a water sample that is irreversible by boiling. Therefore, total hardness can be equivalent to the total calcium and magnesium hardness.

When water passes through or over deposits such as limestone, the levels of ca2+, mg2+, and hco3A AcA A A A ions present in the water greatly increase and cause the water to be classified as hard water.

Hardness in water is caused by dissolved minerals and calcium and magnesium ions are usually present in significant concentration along with other divalent ions.

Measuring Total Hardness is Essential
Hardness creates scale deposit problem which lead to energy loss in different industrial systems ,such as boiler, cooling system, cause scale formation in plumbing, heating appliances, and boilers. Measuring total hardness is essential to monitor A AcA A A A softener, demineralization, RO plant, softening processes, etc.

Directions for Use:-

1.Take 25 nil of water sample to be tested in the test jar.

2.Add one spoonful provided herewith) of TH 1 5.

3.Mix contents well to dissolve.

4.Add 10-12 drops:* of TH 2 and mix contents well.

5.If colour turns blue, it indicates there is 'No Hardness' in the water

6.If colour turns red, it indicates there is 'Hardness'.

7.Now drop wise* add TH 3, counting the number of drops while mixing, until the colour changes from red to blue.

If the expected hardness of the test sample is more than 40 ppm, then use TH 4 'Analyzing Waters instead of TH Calculations: Total Hardness as ppm CaCO3 =2 x (Number of drops of TH A AcA A A A v E= 5 x (Number of drops of TH 4)
