The Welding Rectifier - is when you desire DC output to melt your electrode. Rectifiers themselves are capable of high performance current deliveries in power sources as little as 160 amps to a massive 1200 amps. The diode based was replaced by thyristor controls that were superseded by advanced electronics - IGBT.
