A stepper motor is a DC electric motor that moves in discrete steps. It uses input pulses (typically square waves) to enable precise rotational movement of the shaft. With each pulse in sequence, the motor will rotate one step at a time (step by step) through a precise and fixed angle. The user can achieve very precision positioning or/and speed control with using a computer controller. Because of this feature, it is the best option for many motion-control positioning applications, including lasers and optics. 

A stepper motor employs multiple a tootheda electromagnets assembled as a stator around the gear-shaped rotor. The electromagnets are equally divided into groups, called as a phase. Each phase includes equal numbers of electromagnets. With a micro controller or an external diver circuit, the first electromagnet is turned on, which attracts and aligned with the geara s teeth. Due to this process, the gear rotates slightly, which is repeated. Each rotation is called a a stepa . This is how the stepper motors perform step-by-step for precise motion control positioning applications.
