Maximizing Vertical Space: Nikhil Equipments Changing the Way Industries Warehouse in India

Space has become one of the single most valuable resources for businesses engaged in the industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and third-party logistics industries; however this space is often underutilized. For years, businesses throughout India have struggled to increase inventory levels while adhering to strictly defined and inflexible square footage limitations.

Nikhil Equipments has been solving the storage dilemma since it began operation in 1985 (with structural innovations dating back to 1975), consistently pushing the envelope in terms of what is possible with respect to the unit load storage and handling systems utilized in India. Nikhil makes it possible for businesses to evolve from traditional, messy storage to scientific, high-density, storage through engineered, customized, integrated, turn-key storage solutions that fully utilize every cubic millimeter of a facilities cubic volume.

Firsts in Industrial Development to Storage Revolution in India:

An account of how Nikhil Equipments has had a significant role in being an early-adopter in inventing many engineering achievements has created a foundation for contemporary warehousing in India through all of its history.

  • 1975: The Launch of Compactors (Mobile Racks) by their Founder Director provided a new paradigm for viewing floor space and how to increase storage density.
  • 1985: Following up with the launch of Multi-Tier Integrating Mezzanine Compactors to provide greater verticality to industries as a means of expansion vs. more floor space, the company opened its doors for business.
  • 1988: Nikhil Equipments rollout of the first Automated Vertical Carousel created an early level of automation for the retrieval of parts and tools from storage.
  • 1997: In order to meet the unique challenge of handling complex materials, we designed and built the Stacker Crane with powered turntable and telescopic mast.
  • 1999: was an important year for warehouse storage development, as we launched the VNA (very narrow aisle) stacker crane. The VNA stacker crane had sliding fork carriers and rotating forks, thus eliminating the need for a turntable.

We also launched rack-supported warehouses where the storage racks became the structural members of the building.

Intelligent Space Philosophy: Science Meets Storage

Conventional storage methods waste an enormous quantity of vertical space because there are generally wide aisles with low shelves. To remedy this situation, Nikhil Equipment is using a scientific approach to maximizing the available space in the warehouse. Instead of just being a dead place to store items, storage will now be seen as a "living" asset capable of impacting speed, safety and cost within an operation.

Nikhil Equipment's systems are all designed specifically for the geometry of each customer's inventory. The designs address the various types of items being stored in a facility whether they be raw materials, heavy jigs/fixtures, delicate items such as patterns, subassemblies or finished goods. For all items, regardless whether the materials are being stored in bulk boxes or heavy pallets, or in smaller containers such as tins/cans, records or office supplies, the ultimate objective is to maximize the density of the storage while at the same time allowing for immediate access in a safe manner.

A Comprehensive Blueprint: The Total Storage Portfolio

The Total Storage Portfolio is a detailed plan that provides a multi-tiered set of systems for use in various Industrial /Institutional applications by Nikhil Equipments to meet or exceed the standard of the industry due to its highly demanding regulations.

High-Density Mobile Systems

These Compactor Storage Systems (mechanical, powered, push/pull) allow you to move entire rows of shelving within your facility without the requirement to have multiple permanent aisles (due to high density).

Racking and Structural Systems

  • Medium/Light Duty: Classic slotted angle rack systems offer both flexible and expandable storage options for everyday supplies as well as fast access to most components of inventory.
  • Heavy Duty Pallet Systems: This type of racking is constructed to support heavy weight loads (more than 180 degrees), serving as the foundation for large lock sided industrial warehouses, which allows storage of palletized goods.
  • Single/Multiple Tier Catwalks: By incorporating custom built stair systems and walkways, these systems provide a safe means of taking advantage of vertical clearance of the warehouse storing material, by providing additional usable square footage through catwalk use.

Specialized Dynamics & Specialized Racks

Nikhil Equipments provides Drive-In and Drive-Thru Systems, Flow Racks, and FIFO (First-In, First-Out) Racks for optimal inventory rotation flow to create intelligent inventory flow within modern supply chains. Specialized Cantilever Racks provide a solution for holding and organizing products with large surface areas (e.g., pipes, tubes, wood), as well as allowing for clear product identification within the rack. Additionally, when combined with structural and standard steel pallets and bins, they provide for an end-to-end secure and standardized material handling system.
