Few Facts and Uses of Scientific Instruments

Scientific instruments are specially designed artifacts, that are instrumental in carrying out scientific experiments, taking measurements and gathering related data. Although considered to be a part of laboratory equipments, these are comparatively more sophisticated and specialized with respect to innumerable other instruments that are used for measuring such as scales, meter sticks, thermometers, etc. Depending upon their functionality, scientific instruments vary greatly in size, ranging from normal sized instruments to large ones such as particle colliders, radio telescope antennas that can be several miles long.

Scientific instruments are used across almost all major sectors, with some notable examples being robotics, aviation, medical diagnostics etc. Also, it won't be an exaggeration to say that most of the aforementioned sectors would be hamstrung without these instruments. Another noteworthy thing to mention is due to the nature of industries they are used in, scientific instruments are constantly evolving, with their manufacturers undertaking continuous R & D in the hopes of improving their effectiveness and efficiency.

Some examples of scientific instruments along with their usage

   *  Abbe refractometer – It is basically an instrument used for high precision measurement of the refractive index

   *  Bio freezer – As the name suggests, its a kind of refrigerator that is used to maintain a temperature below 0 degrees, the freezing point of water

   *  Anemometer – Used for the purpose of measuring the wind speed, its direction and also pressure

   *  Calipers – It is ideal for the purpose of measuring the actual diameter of a wire, rod and also tube

  *  Elisa reader – Its an instrument commonly used to detect and analyze biological, chemical and physical properties of laboratory samples

  *  Drill tool dynamo-meter – Used to measure the force applied on a machine during its operation, thereby preventing chances of its failure due to exceedingly high load

   *   Galvanometer – A galvanometer is a scientific instrument that is widely used for the measurement of electric current

Few facts about scientific instruments:

1. Scientific instruments always provide precise calculations/readings and results. In fact it can also be argued that one of the major reasons for people to use these instruments is their ability to provide precise results  Most scientific instruments are designed to work flawlessly in all weather conditions

2. The instruments can range from being very easy to use to requiring specialized trained personnel for operating them

3. These require minimal maintenance, a trait that is very beneficial because a lot of times these are used in areas that can at best be termed as a wilderness

4. These instruments have many other beneficial attributes such as resistance to corrosion, abrasion, winding and chips etc.
