English Phonetics and Linguistics aims at the readers with the basic principles and concepts of the subject. Linguistics has, over the past few decades, growth into a multidimensional discipline interacting with such diverse areas of study as psychology, sociology, anthropology, palaeography, history, information science and so on. As a section on historical comparative linguistics discusses the immensely interesting journey of a language through evolutionary stages, grouping of different languages into families on the basis of genetics affinities and changes that occur in a language over the years.
