| Description |
Since most color formers are basic, they require an acidic developer to form a color. Color developers are usually acidic clays or synthetic products, such as phenolic resins or salicylates. This is the single, most important component of the CF coating since it reacts with the color former to develop the image. Acid clays, phenolic resins, and salicylates can all function as color developers. For maximum effectiveness, the color developer must be highly reactive toward the color former. This is a function of developer chemistry and the surface area of the CF coating.
