All electrical equipments & machines are designed and manufactured in India at 400 volts (Three Phase) / 230 volts (Single Phase). Power is supplied to the consumers at these standard rating, but due to technical limits & commercial inbiabilities it is not possible to supply power at the above mentioned rating and a wide spectrum of voltage variation is witnessed. The problem is more acute where cluster of industries exists which causes considerable losses, directly due to over drawing of current and indirectly due to breakdown in Machines, interruption in production process and it's bad effects on quality of products.
