Tarnishing of silver, brass and copper occurs in many situations and environments. Changes in temperature while goods are in storage or transit induces condensation droplets (water) to form on the cooler metal surfaces.

Goods wrapped in Hi-Tech VCI Silver Wrap are not affected by tarnishing. Unlike the conventional usage of cotton that is hygroscopic i.e. absorbs moisture and turns the packaging atmosphere acidic, VCI chemicals coated on the paper evaporate and react with the humidity. The micro-moisture or humidity droplets become so heavily impregnated with tarnish inhibitors released from the VCI Paper or Non Woven Fabric that these droplets themselves become rust preventives. The humidity then does not have any detrimental effect on the packed components when it settles during condensation. In effect tarnishing cannot occur in vicinity of the VCI Paper and expensive parts will remain in factory condition FOREVER.

The coating changes the chemistry of H2S gas and eliminates the need for any coating or tarnish removers that are often an industry practice for expensive metals. With most of the tarnish inhibitors there is a need to remove after use. It also causes de coloration of metal surface. With SilverWrape there is no removal needed of the inhibitor. Silver Wrap need no further finishing of metal and is ready to use by the end customer. It does not affect physical properties such as conductivity or surface resistivity.
