We formulate dibenzal acetone through the condensation process wherein benzaldehyde is condensed with acetone in presence of condensing agents such as dry hydrogen chloride, 10 per cent sodium hydroxide solution and glacial acetic acid with sulfuric acid. Dibenzal acetone is also obtainable through condensation of benzalacetone with benzaldehyde in the presence of dilute sodium hydroxide. Dibenzal acetone is widely used in the pharmaceuticals especially in Sun Protection Creams.
