Ornamentation of garments, home furnishings, and other fabric items has gained momentum over the years. The world of fashion is incomplete without fringes, a decorative applied ornament, available in the form of gimp, ribbon, ruffles, trims, and other items.
This ornamental textile trim is applied to an edge of any item to enhance its beauty. Most of the items where fringes are applied include drapery, a flag, decorative tassels, epaulettes, etc.
A fringe projects beyond a woven fabric, originating in the ends of the warp. In most applications, it is made separately and sewn on. A fringe may also have projecting ends, twisted or plaited together, and sometimes of loose fabric threads or narrow strips of leather.
