Industry the Rising Sun |
|
Poultry industry
is the rising sun because of the acceptability
of poultry consumption in the largely vegetarian
nation. Average growth of broiler industry
is 15-20 % whereas layer is 10-15 %. The number
of broiler is 1000 million, poultry meat production
is 5 lac tonnes. India produces 30,000 million
eggs annually. |

The annual turnover is more
then Rs 30,000 crores. |
|
Poultry industry
generates employment for more then 1.5 million
people. |
|
India is one of the
top six egg producing and the top five chicken
producing countries. |
|
Poultry meat and
egg products are highly nutritious. |
|
The per capita consumption
of egg is around 36 eggs per annum and that
of poultry meat is 850 grams per annum. WHO
recommended per capita consumption level 180
eggs and 1.9 kg chicken meat per annum. |
|
It is important to
have integrated poultry to reduce cost of
production both for broiler and layer and
make the industry sustainable. |
|
Infrastructure facilities
are needed such as building, storage, distribution,
marketing and export. Laboratories facilities
are to be upgraded for testing pesticide residues,
antibiotics and hormones. |
|
Automatic poultry
dressing line for poultry meat processing,
are coming up there has been rapid transition
from manual operation to almost fully automated
and mechanical process. This enables poultry
processors to slaughter large number of birds
without much handling and contamination of
products. |
|
Processing of poultry
meat and eggs to convenience fast-food, ready
to eat, heat and eat are recent trends. However,
fresh chilled and frozen poultry meat at wholesale
and retail sales will continue to expand for
wholesomeness and quality for the consumers. |
|
Traditional value
added poultry meat products are tandoori chicken,
bar-be-que, kebab and pickles. Other products
are sausages salami, patties, nuggets and
loaf. |
|
The export of milk products
is on the rise and is likely to touch 68,000
MT during 2006-07. New innovative
egg products are frozen omelets, scramble
egg mix cooked in bag, scrambled eggs, egg
in muffins, hard cooked egg role, egg crust
pizza, fruit juice egg drink, egg substitute
with albumen and other ingredient to make
cholesterol free. |

Usually plastic or
other transparent film which is fairly tough
and reasonably impermeable to moisture and
air is used for packaging. |
