The Central Warehousing Corporation, a Govt. of India Undertaking under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, has opened a Warehouse of 2000 sq. mtr. to start with at BOM PORT, Montevideo (a Free Port) in Uruguay.

This is considered necessary towards setting up offshore Warehouse to help the Indian exporters in Latin America.

Adjacent to the Warehouse, there is an exhibition hall where interested Indian exporters can display their items. Some of the companies especially from China are already displaying their items in these stalls.

In case the Indian exporters are interested, CWC can act on their behalf on mutually agreed terms and conditions.

The campus has:

(a) Security and surveillance service 24x7
(b) Cleaning services in common area
(c) Trash collection
(d) General lighting
(e) Gardening
(f) 300 sq.ft. office space/cabin within the warehouse for two members of CWC’s staff
(g) Outdoor parking space
(h) Help desk services
(i) Fire fighting services

CWC shall be in a position to handle/store any cargo in international commerce except explosive and weapons. Even the hazardous and extra hazardous commodities, if adequately packed, shall be stored, of course, after isolation from other general products.

Central Warehousing Corporation contemplates to charge an amount of US $ 10 per sq.mtr. per month or part thereof on a net area basis from the Indian exporters to keep their goods at Montevideo which could be a logistically convenient location for re-export to Mercosur countries.

Besides, this value added services like re-packaging, palletization and distribution even by making invoices are available at the Warehouse at Montevideo.

The stock shall be also arranged to be insured to cover damages to the insured stock at a charge of 0.06% per month on the declared value of the general goods whereas the premium for hazardous and extra hazardous shall be in a position to be quoted after knowing the exact type of goods and their IMDG Codes.

CWC’s strategic partner is M/s. Grupo Ras Corporation, a renowned Logistic Company having branches in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia etc.

They have well trained manpower and has a capacity to handle the goods from various ports of India to Montevideo including loading, unloading, transportation, custom clearance, etc.

The goods reaching Montevideo can be stored in CWC Warehouse and after value addition services, if required, can be distributed to various destinations in Latin American countries on a short notice on demand.
