TOPIC : Importer-Exporter Code (IEC)
If one wants to export or import any goods, one needs to have an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC). The certificate is issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and needs to be registered as an individual, firm, organization, entity.
The IEC certificate can be obtained by any PAN holder desirous of Exports or Imports. An IEC once issued is permanent in nature unless it is surrendered by the IEC holder or cancelled by the Licencing Authority upon any default made be the IEC holder.
However an IEC once issued needs to be updated within three months in the case there is any change in the name of the IEC holder, change in address of the registered or branch office or the factory address or change in directors, conversion from proprietorship concern to firm or firm to company or Pvt Ltd to Public Ltd, change in bank details, or change in PAN details of the IEC holder.
