A hammer mill is used either as a primary crusher to reduce material to minus 25mm or as a secondary crusher to reduce crushed product to minus 2mm size. As a primary crusher, it can handle asbestos rock, gypsum, phosphates etc while as a secondary crusher it is used for limestone, gravel etc. Standard sizes range from 500mm x 400mm to 1050mm x 1500mm giving a capacity up to 200 TPH.

A roll crusher is generally used as a secondary crusher which gives higher production with lower power requirement & is easier to maintain.
