The internal stresses of surface plates are relieved either by natural ageing or by artificial seasoning to minimize distortion. These are offered in two grades Grade-1 and Grade-2 and are carefully finished by hand scrapping. Rust preventive coating is applied before packing of these plates to ensure that surface plate is protected from harsh climatic conditions.
